Alvin is part of the Danville, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 316 at the 2000 census. The U.S. Post Office uses the name Alvin, however the village is also known by the alternate spelling Alvan.

A Lighting Ceremony is in the process of being planned for the Spring of 2020. The Village is also working on adding on to the parking this fall.

Easter Egg

Easter Egg Hunt

The Village of Alvin plans an Easter Egg Hunt yearly for the neighborhood kids, held at the Homer Carter Park.

Homer Carter Ball Park

The park includes a ball field, concession stand, pavilion, playground. As of this year 2019 lights for the field have been installed made possible due to donations from Roger Brown II, Cadle Foundation, Labor by Rick White (Whites Electric), Justin Wallace, Kyle Finley and David Ingram. The Village Board members also worked on raising funds through different events. Alvin Fun Day in 2017, 2016 and Spaghetti Dinner in May of 2019.

A Lighting Ceremony is in the process of being planned for the Fall of 2019.

POTTER'S PARK

Methodist church in Alvin donated the property on the corner of E. Wood Street and Chicago Street to the Village of Alvin to become a local park for children to play. Park equipment has been updated as recently as 6 years ago.

Barlow Park Photos

Barlow Park

In 1906, Mrs. Fanny Barlow, bought the old mill and the land around it and developed a park on the west side of the river in the wooded bottom land. On the east side of the river she built vacation cottages and rented them out. The park became famous for miles around. Barlow Park offered; boating, baseball, band concerts, and water slide. People traveled to Alvin on the C. & E. I. Railroad just to visit Barlow Park. In 1920 the park had lost its fascination and the family was aging and closed the park.

Tornado

Tornado Strikes On March 16, 1942

There were a total of 5 deaths caused as a result of the tornado and many injured. You can find a memorial stone at the town center near the Basketball court.
